Addition strategies we've been working on:
1. Just knowing them!
2. Drawing out the addition problem
3. Counting on
4. Using a number line
5. Recognizing Doubles facts
6. Fingers (But we are not using this strategy right now!)
Strategies are levels of support we use until math facts are secured into long term memory! Once the strategy is learned, its use can be increased or decreased, based on what each individual students needs. Some children rely on these strategies longer than others, and that IS okay! We still hold the expectation that students will learn math facts and strive to have automatic recall! Flash cards and xtramath.org are two great resources you can use at home!
