Solving "Groups of" with Strategies

And then I took out the words "groups of" and inserted a X symbol!  LEAPIN LIZARDS!  We're doing mulitiplication!!

 

When we used the words "groups of" they thought it was easy!

When we said "times" they thought it was tricky! 

 

 

We are discovering PATTERNS.  Appyling general rules and properties with flexibility.  We shift from concrete to mental math.  Using many strategies to solve problems quickly and with understanding! 

 

Our new goals: 

• To shift from counting to adding! 
• Finding quick ways to decompose numbers to make 10's.
